First: Is there recent data on the target?

  • Check timestamps on Catalog/Data for the affected machine/user.
  • If stale, assume backups are not running or cannot reach the target.
  • If current, the issue is likely restore workflow, file inclusion, or user expectation.

Second: Is the target healthy and writable?

  • Capacity (avoid >90% used).
  • Filesystem health (NAS volume errors, read-only remounts, quota exhaustion).
  • Permissions (write denied after an ACL change is common).

Third: Is the path stable from the client’s point of view?
